A default installation of Ubuntu sets the console editor to nano. Several years ago this would have been my dream and often I found myself changing the default editor vi /etc/profile to nano.
Lately being forced to used vi I have become exceptionally confortable using it and wanted to change the default editor to vi, searching through /etc/profile, /etc/profile.d/ and /root/.bash_profile nothing was found.
A quick google has shown that the following command allows you to select your editor of choice.
update-alternatives –config editor
This allows commands like crontab -e to use your editor of choice.
